If you are interested in becoming a beta reader for my books, you have come to the right place! Below I will write a brief description of what a beta reader does, doesn’t do, and specifics for my beta readers. The request form to become a beta reader is at the bottom of this page.
Thank you for your interest!
What is a beta reader?
A Beta Reader reads my manuscript before it is sent to an editor and offers constructive criticism focusing on the flow of the story, characterization, dialogue, and potential plot holes.
What does a beta reader do?
- Read my story from the perspective of a reader.
- Offer constructive criticism about characterization, dialogue, pacing, and look for plot inconsistencies.
- Point out areas of the story that are boring, irrelevant, or confusing.
- Offer ideas on how to improve the story.
- Although you’re not a proofreader, you could point out spelling mistakes, grammar issues as well if you like.
What does a beta reader NOT do?
- Rewrite my story
- Leave a review anywhere
- Share my book with anyone
- Publicly post your feedback
What’s in it for you?
First, you’ll have my undying gratitude. Writing a book is a long, sometimes painful process. I truly appreciate every one of my beta readers, and definitely do not take them for granted!
You also get to read the manuscript before anyone else! (Other than my wife.) Can’t wait to find out what happens to a character? Need to know what new revelations will be revealed? As a beta reader, you will discover all of these and much more weeks before anyone else!
You will also be invested in the success of the story. Once the novel goes live, you will be able to not only see some of your suggestions implemented in the final work, but your name will appear in the acknowledgements section on both the e-book and paperback!
Can anyone be one of your beta readers?
Yes and no. Anyone can apply, but I do have limited space that I allow. This is mostly to save time. If I were to allow everyone to be a beta reader, then I may have to review hundreds of different readers. I believe that nearly anyone can be a good beta reader, but due to the limited space, I am currently only accepting a few slots. If you are interested in reading the books before they are out for purchase, but do not wish to beta read, please take a look at my Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) request form by clicking here.
